Team line up vs Arsenal
|
This would be mine:
Adrian
O'brien Tomkins Ogbonna Cresswell
Kouyate Noble
Amalfitano Payet Zarate
Sakho
Are Reid / Obiang fit? I would like to see Oxford given a little game time too.

When everyone is for we have a decent starting 11, but with a few injuries our squad is paper thin.

I'm still hopeful about Poyet but I guess this kid Oxford is a bit of a phenomenon. Hopefully we will see bits of both of them this season but I'd be worried if it was in more than a supporting role for both. Building up some depth would be a good thing and having these two as players we could trust to play if needed.

Presumably thinking about Poyet?
Young Diego did okay in Romania and I hope he has a future with us but he is moving down the pecking order, especially if Song returns.

Who are you thinking of? Obiang is injured and Kouyate , Noble & Oxford will have to get through a hell of a lot of work in there. On preseason form and with no Obiang or Song Oxford deserves a start. That we are starting a 16 yo says more about our squad strength than anything.

Strong talk that Oxford is going to start.
Massive kick in the bollocks for the genuine DMs if true but we love to see a youth player come through.

We have only made a marginal change to the squad from last season through transfers with Payet in for Downing and Ogbonna beefing up CB options. Obiang might be a shrewd signing but we have seen little of him.
The difference this season will have to be kids coming in like Oxford and Nolan going out. Then it will be about Bilic's philosophy, tactics and motivation powers.
We will likely lose as they have been so much stronger than us for so long in terms of technical quality all over the park but I will look for improvement primarily in terms of:
Possession - we usually get between 20 and 30% against them at the Emirates Movement - which is the other part of good football and something our midfield and forwards have struggled with for a long while Chances on goal - we usually get 1 or 2 Possession in the final 3rd - we usually only end up getting possession in our own half before being closed down and resorting to lumping it forward and essentially giving it back to them. Work rate - non stop pressing of them when they are in possession
If we can do better in these areas I will be ok with losing and of course if it leads to us getting something I will be ecstatic. :-)
Team will be what most think except at RB I would play Burke I think. A risk but he will put in a shift has a little pace:
Adrian Burke Tomkins Ogbonna Cresswell Oxford Kouyate Noble Payet Zarate Sakho

I'm sure I read that Zarate has been asked to play behind the strikers by Bilic even though he feels his best position is striker.
Clearly Sakho up front and Zarate and Payet behind. Three DM's and a back four. Tomkins at RB has been tried before but I think his biggest weakness is when he has players running at him. I still think he's a better option than JOB though...

Against decent opposition the only way the diamond consistently worked for us is when Sakho and Valencia pressed mercilessly, not sure Zarate even with his improved form is up to that.
We shall see.

Zarate has been playing up front. With Sakho vs Bremen, with Maiga vs Astra.
Fully expect he will again today.

I agree. And its not like we've got anyone else, unless you class Mobido Maiga as a footballer.
It could be like the moment Curbishley realised Tevez can play as a striker ;-)

Collins or Obrien can not play. They were made to look slow by Astra. God to think what the pace of Arsenal will make them look like

Amalfitano, and JOB shouldn't even be in the squad.
We need better players, at least 2 or 3 more or we are going struggle.

Why is no one putting Zarate as an out and out striker ? That's his best and favoured position. Diamond 2moro. Oxford at the base. Kouyate and Noble left and right. Payet at the tip with Sakho and zarate up front.

Can only assume that we will win with ease after the the master stroke of throwing in the towel in Europe to guarantee these three points.
